10/5 & 10/6: Wild Plants, Wildlife & Deliciousness

To celebrate the change in seasons (& our first two-months in business) we wanted to do something fun, and good!

You’re cordially invited to a truly one-of-a-kind  “Wild Plants, Wildlife & Local Deliciousness” weekend event at Tin Umbrella Coffee:

  • When:  during our regular hours, 8:30AM to 5PM, Sat & Sun, Oct 5 & 6, 2013
  • Where: Tin Umbrella Coffee, 5600 Rainier Ave, Seattle

#1. NW’s own Go Natives Nursery  will “transform” our Findlay Street sidewalk into a wild & lush, incredible native plant, side-walk sale for the weekend! nativesChat with the experts in native gardening, and walk home with arms full of low-maintenance, beautiful plants. Go Natives Nusery (started in 2004 with a mobile “truck tailgate” nusery, now expanding to delightful neighborhood sales) and offer more than 150 native species, thoughtfully-grown, organically fertilized.

  • Fun fact: Don’s yard has been featured in Audubon Magazine (See “Wooing the Wildlife“), and is a designated Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary! (Cool, huh?) Bring your garden questions & challenges and he’ll find a sweet native solution.)

To go with our wild plants, we’re debuting incredible wildlife photography of Seattle’s Gerrit Vyn, conservation photographer and natural history media producer at the renowned Cornell Lab of Ornithology, throughout the month of October. (Gerrit regularly leads field expeditions, to record wildlife in some of the world’s most alluring and remote areas, this month, heading off to South Korea and China, for all kinds of photographic adventures.)

    • gerrit vynFun fact: Are you a Birdnote fan? You’ll see (& hear) Gerrit’s work featured on this popular bird-show. And their 2014 calendar (on sale at Tin Umbrella Coffee this fall) is a colorful testament to Gerrit’s dedication to tell the remarkable lives of birds, and what people can do to help protect them.

  •     ariel 2Fun fact: Chef Ariel is a Franklin High School graduate! She not only calls the Rainier Valley home, she gives back by sharing her culinary-love with kids in the community, who knows. (We were so inspired to hear her story, that we’re beyond excited to start cooking-up something special, together, with Chef Ariel & her students! Stay Tuned.)
